Taylored Photography bio picture

Welcome to my Blog!

Hi, my name is Laura Taylor. I live in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada and I have to say, I think it's the best place in the world to live! Although I have studio lighting that I can take on location I consider myself a natural light photographer. I believe natural lighting gives your images a more real and warm feeling. I mostly photograph weddings, portraits and babies but I love all genres of photography and I'm always up for anything.

I have an amazing partner, Kevin, who supports me, all my crazy ideas and puts up with my ridiculously busy schedule. Together we have a beautiful 2 year old daughter Paige. I'm sure you'll see her in many posts! And I can't forget about our dog Jessie or "woof woof" as Paige calls her, who is very much a part of our family.

I think I have the best circle of friends ever, who never stop praising me and my photography. It was my friends and families support that got me to follow my passion for photography. I can't say enough about any of them. Big Thanks to all of you! You know who you are.

Aside from photography I love spending time with my family, reading, watching movies and hanging out with my friends. I'm also addicted to chocolate and starbucks.....although I don't actually like coffee! But I do love a good Chai.

I'm not sure where the future is going to take me but I do know that it will always include photography.

Thanks so much for checking out my Blog! I love hearing from people so feel free to drop me a line.

Marcia & Andrew Wedding

I’m sure you will remember these two from their engagement shoot. if not you can check it out here. Marica & Andrew’s wedding was held at Shawnigan Lake School, which is a private school on about 300 acres of land. The grounds are amazing and made for a beautiful backdrop for a wedding. Unfortunately they spend all summer getting ready for the new year so they don’t allow weddings there unless you are an alumni or in some way affiliated with the school.

I had gone up the night before the wedding to check out the grounds during their rehearsal. Everyone was busy getting the final touches done in the reception room and the very cute Marcia was sporting a baby bump. I noticed right away but don’t like to ask people, so you can imagine my excitement for them when she told me the morning of the wedding that she is indeed pregnant! I couldn’t be happier for these two. Not only are they getting married but they are expanding their family as well. Marcia already has a 12 year old son Desmond, and he actually walked Marica down the isle which was so cute! Andrew has been going to school for the past few years in I believe, Prince George to get a nursing degree so they have had to endure a long distance relationship as well as plan a wedding.

It was a great wedding with a fantastic wedding party that toured the grounds in a bus with us.  Thanks everyone for putting up with the heat and all the getting on and off the bus. You guys rock!!! The reception was also held at the school in a big hall that they have there. During the reception Marcia’s son Desmond, who I don’t believe was schedualed to speak got up and gave this beautiful speach to his mom and his new stepdad Andrew. I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house including my own. I hid behind my camera for a little while after that! I don’t think most 12 year old boys would get up in front of all those people and give a speach  so I think it was really sweet of him to do that for his mom.

Lauren & Nick

Lauren & Nick had an intimate wedding with their close friends & family in this beautiful house on Gabriola Island. I love shooting small intimate weddings like this because everyone is always so nice and relaxed. And it gives you a chance to get to know people and you have more one on one time with the couple. I really enjoyed photographing Lauren & Nick’s wedding. They’re just a really super nice couple. And I just love Lauren’s freckles!

Angie & Darcy

This is the second time I have had the pleasure of photographing Angie and I just can’t get enough of her. Aside of being absolutly georgous she has this sweet girl next door kind of personality. Which is a rocking combination! I have actually been trying to get this post done all week and have had a REALLY hard time deciding what to put up. I had so many favorites that I just kept changing my mind. I think my all time favorite of the day is the one below of Angie standing alone with her veil. I love it when brides wear veils and this one was the longest I have ever seen!!

Angie & Darcy had their wedding at the Westin Bear Mountain Resort. This was the first time I had ever gone there let alone photograph there, and I have to say it’s a really nice place to get married. They have a really pretty wine cellar in the basement, the grounds are beautiful and they take you on a bus tour of the golf course to take photos as well. These two are both really easy to photograph and they are just a fun and loving couple. I know they will have a great future together. Thanks guys for letting me be part of your amazing day!!

Matt & Amber

Matt & Amber got married at the Old English Inn in Esquimalt. This is my second time shooting at this location this year and I have to say it’s a great place to get married. The place is beautiful and the staff are amazing, and so helpful. These two are so much fun, non stop laughs and you can tell they just adore each other. They even had a photo station set up where guests could dress up and get their photo taken. We had alot of fun with their wedding party as well and I thought it was hilarious that the guys dropped their pants and had matching underwear. Thanks guys for the great day!

Carolyn & Aaron

I’m sure you will remember this adorable couple from their engagement shoot. If not you can see it here. I don’t think I have ever laughed so much at a shoot as I did at their engagement and their wedding was no different. They are just such a fun and loving couple it makes my job so much easier. They are also both stunning and I still can’t get over Carolyn’s gorgeous blue eyes.  .

Carolyn and Aaron got married at a cute little church in Sooke called the St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church and then we headed over to East Sooke Park for the romantics and then followed it up with a reception at the Luxton Hall. There were lots of cute little touches at this wedding but my favorite had to be the button boutonniere’s which Aaron’s mom actually made! A close second would be the pillow the rings were on and she made that as well. I didn’t post a picture of the pillow but I can assure you it was beautiful. I’m convinced she should open some sort of wedding business making such things, she really is talented.

July 29, 2010 - 8:57 am Sean - Great set Laura!!

Grace & Cliff Wedding

Grace or Pili as she is called by her friends and family, contacted me back in January to photograph her wedding. Both Grace and Cliff are originally from Victoria but have lived in Australia for the last number of years, so we had been corresponding just by email to get everything arranged. I actually didn’t get to meet them until 5 days prior to their wedding to do an engagement shoot. You can see those photos in the previous post. They are without a doubt the sweetest couple I have ever photographed and were up for anything in both the engagement shoot and the wedding including hanging out in Victoria’s less attractive alley ways! So thanks guys for being such good sports about it.

Their wedding was held at the English Inn, which is a beautiful location for an outdoor wedding. The amount of effort and detail that went into this wedding was amazing. Pili had her dress handmade back home in Australia and it looked stunning on her. Her mom handmade, I believe a couple hundred Oreo cookies as the favors and then stamped them with their initials. I didn’t actually try any, but I did overhear a bunch of the guests commenting on how yummy they were. Her dad wrote a beautiful song for them and then performed it at the reception with Pili’s sister. The hanger which her dress is on in the second photo was made by one of the bridesmaids mom’s and it had a little tag that showed the date of the wedding, it was really quite pretty. Her something borrowed & something blue was a compact her friend lent her and inside was engraved with “To my dear wife on our wedding day July 24, 1943 from her ever loving husband”.  Many of the guests travelled to attend their wedding. These are just some of the special details that went into this wedding but the whole day was just beautiful. Both Grace & Cliff looked amazing in their wedding attire and they couldn’t be a cuter couple. Cliff has this whole bond look going as well, which we told him many times as we were shooting. All in all it was a great wedding and a great day. Thanks guys for letting us be part of your day!!!

Heather & Matt

I Photographed Heather and Matt’s wedding with Georgie Wilson at Overbury Farm on Thetis Island, which is still my favorite wedding location. It was a beautiful wedding with great people, couldn’t ask for anything more!

August 10, 2010 - 11:43 am Heather - Hi Laura! Thanks for posting these! They are wonderful!

August 10, 2010 - 12:53 pm Taylored Photography - No problem Heather! If was a great day of shooting for me!

New Logo

I’m so happy to announce my new logo. The lovely and talented Melissa from Cranberryblue came up with this beautiful new logo, which I just love!

If you are in need of a new logo or anything in that nature check out her website. She is super easy to work with and put up with all of my questions and changes. For those of you that know me, I’m sure you are all well aware I couldn’t make a decision to save my soul so I had a REALLY hard time choosing which design to go with (there were many options). So thank you to all of my nice friends that put up with my many emails and polls on which was their favorite.

Laurie & Paul

Well it’s been a crazy month and doesn’t look like it’s going to slow down anytime soon. Which is good, but bad for my blogging…..which I am behind in.

Laurie & Paul tied the knot at the beautiful St. Ann’s Academy a couple weeks ago. These two are such a sweet couple and so much in love. I really enjoyed photographing their wedding. Both of them are so nice and kind and just seem to have these big hearts. They even sent me a thank you email while on their honeymoon in Fiji. Which is a first for me and I just thought that was so nice of them. I might add I’m pretty jealous of the whole Fiji vacation! Hope you guys had fun and thanks for being so patient waiting for this blog post!

For guests of the wedding be sure to check back as I will post a link once I have finished editing to a selection of images from the wedding for viewing and if you want prints you can order those from the site as well.

June 29, 2010 - 7:03 pm Kim and Matt - Beautiful Photo's. Congrats again!! Can't wait to hear how your trip went. I hope you have lots of pics for us to see.
