For me being a photographer, I think the most frustrating thing is that Paige never lets me take her photo. Oh she’ll ham it up if I’m just taking a snap with my iphone but in terms of taking her out to do a photoshoot I’m hard pressed to get her to participate. So when I asked her last week if we could go out and take some updated photos and she said yes you can imagine how excited I was! It was like I won the lottery. For those of you with 3 or 4 year olds probably know what I’m talking about. If they get it in their heads they aren’t doing something, especially something like a photoshoot there is just no changing their mind. And really if they aren’t into it it’s just going to be a disaster. So last Sunday we got up and the weather was perfect so I packed all my gear, made sure I had enough cards and batteries, got her ready, packed up the truck with all the props I was bringing….yes I love props! Go outside to load her into her car seat and it just starts pouring……are you flipping kidding me!!!!!! Back in the house we go to unpack everything and of course Paige is upset because I’ve promised her the world if she will let mommy take just a few photos of her. Yes I use bribery in situations like this because lets face it most kids that young don’t want to do a photoshoot. And it’s different when it’s your own kid. Most of them co-operate more when it’s not their parent taking the photos. So that weekend didn’t work out but I was determined to get some updated photos of her so we tried again this Sunday and it worked out perfectly! Most kids this age get tired fairly quickly and Paige was no different but for the time she lasted we got some seriously cute shots. And I say we because Kevin is in charge of holding gear and being silly behind me to make Paige laugh. So it ends up being a joint effort. And like all men he needs credit for his part! Sorry hunny but it’s true.

Most days I wish I could freeze time and keep her at this age forever! And then there are the days where she makes me want to pull my hair out and think she will be lucky if she makes it to her teenage years…oh her teenage years…I imagine those will be fun! I guess I deserve that though or so my mom says. But all kidding aside when I was editing a few of the images I got to thinking about how quick time seems to go by once you have a baby. You all hear it when your pregnant, enjoy every moment, it goes by so quick etc etc. But you think to yourself or at least I did…I have a whole year to myself with my little bundle of joy…that’s along time. But it goes by in the blink of an eye and before you know it you’re working again, your baby is walking and talking. And then another blink and they’re in preschool and they’ve become these little people with opinions. Someone just asked me where Paige is going to go to kindergarten….wait a minute?? Kindergarten? Seriously? She’s still a baby! And then it hits you…she isn’t a baby anymore. She’ll be going to kindergarten next September! I think I might be sick. I haven’t even thought about kindergarten. She isn’t on a waitlist! Do they have waitlists for kindergarten like they do with preschool? I have to add look into kindergarten to my “to do” list. This all made me realize how much I miss and how much I work. I work A LOT. I’m always working…..and when you aren’t working you have all the household things to do like cooking and cleaning and then how much time does that leave you with? not much. And don’t get me wrong we are really fortunate that Grandma looks after Paige when we are working so she is getting really good care. And I make it a point to have Sunday as family day and we do a lot of activities together during the week but still, it made me think it’s not enough. So my new years resolution (yes I know I’m late, but better late then never or so they say) is to make more time for family and spend less time working and I might even let the laundry pile up…because lets face it who wants to fold laundry!
