My name is Laura Taylor and I’m a photographer, a wife and a mother of 2 here in the Cowichan Valley. I have a diploma in professional photography, which I obtained at the Western Academy of Photography in Victoria BC in 2006.
I started my photography business in 2007 in Victoria BC photographing mostly weddings and families. Over the years I have developed a strong love for newborns, children and family photography, which is what I mostly focus on now. I still take a limited number of weddings per season as I do still find a great joy in celebrating and capturing couples special day with them. By only booking a small amount of weddings each year it gives me the balance I need to give my family the attention they deserve and it gives my non wedding clients session time and allows me to really focus on the wedding clients that I do book.
I strive to capture images that are fun, natural and a little bit whimsical and because I’m professionally trained in photography I have a keen eye for light and composition. I work both on location and I have an in home studio for sessions with littles.
To say I love photography is an understatement. I love love love it. Can you tell I love it? I think if I wasn’t able to do photography anymore a little piece of my heart would be gone. I love being able to capture people’s memories and being part of your family, even for just a day. I feel my job is to capture moments in time, and to create a photographic story for people to cherish for years to come. It’s mushy I know but that’s me.
I’ve lived on the island since I was four years old and I have to say, I think it’s the best place in the world to live!
I have an amazing partner, Kevin, who supports me, all my crazy ideas and puts up with my ridiculously busy schedule. Together we have 2 beautiful children and when I’m not doing something photography related you can usually find me cuddling one or both of these 2 cuties. I think I have the best circle of friends ever, who never stop praising me and my photography. It was my friends and families support that got me to follow my passion for photography.
Aside from photography I love spending time with my family, reading, and anything crafty. I’m also addicted to chocolate and starbucks…..although I don’t actually like coffee! But I do love a good Chai. I’m not sure where the future is going to take me but I do know that it will always include photography.
