Session Info

Taylored Photography is located in Cowichan Bay, BC on Vancouver Island specializing in newborn photography, children photography and family photography. Most often the first question people ask is “what is your approach to wedding and portrait photography?” The answer is simple: “what are your expectations?” With your answer I am able to base my approach specific to what you, as the client wants. I’ll make suggestions on locations and clothing but ultimately the final decisions are up to you. I always strive to give you images that capture who you are as a person. I want you to have images that you are going to cherish for a lifetime.

As for my style, which is usually the second question I get asked. The answer to that goes hand in hand with the answer to my approach. I work hard to give you something we both love. These are your images and I will work with you to create your ‘vision’ for the images. And if you don’t have a vision and want to leave it up to me then I can work with that as well.

I’m a fairly laid back photographer; I’m not in to having you sit all posed instructing you to tilt your head, put your feet here, your hands there. That’s not to say I won’t give you instruction, I will, I just do it in a way where it looks fun, fresh & creative. Because lets face it no one wants one of those boring old portraits where you can tell the photographer is yelling cheese behind the camera!

Location

As far as locations go I feel that Vancouver Island, BC is my studio. There are so many great places that offer the perfect backdrops for your session. And having natural light will give your

images that nice warm feel. However, some sessions require an indoor session, especially in the case of newborns and children. For these sessions I have an in home studio.

Babies and Children

When photographing babies and small children I will always work around feeding times, nap times etc to get the best images possible. I understand that kids are very unpredictable and don’t always stick to a timetable. They could be having a bad day or be scared of the stranger with the big camera. So I am always willing to reschedule the session if need be or just hang out a little longer so they can get comfortable with me. Sometimes making them comfortable is as simple as letting them bring a favorite toy, blanket or pet. I never want parents to get stressed out because their kids aren’t cooperating and worry that they are going to be left with images they hate. The best time to photograph newborns is in the first 10 days. I know this can be a stressful time with just bringing baby home but doing the photos during this time gives you the best images as they are still really sleepy and are the easiest to work with.

Clothing

Picking out clothing is a huge part of the way your images are going to look. It really depends on the location, your vision etc as to what you want to be wearing. So I can always make suggestions as to what would be best. As a general rule I usually say stay away from loud prints and shirts with big logos because these types of things can distract the attention away from you in the image. But the most important thing to remember is you need to be comfortable. Having a couple wardrobe options is always a good idea. You don’t have to have matching outfits for your images, just be yourself and your images will be beautiful. There is always exceptions to the ‘wear something neutral suggestion’ if your style is loud and out there then don’t sway from that because that’s who you are and I want you to be you. And if your kids want to dress themselves and you don’t mind, let them!

Scheduling

Each session aside from weddings lasts one to two hours. And since we live on the West Coast all outdoor sessions are weather dependent. But I’m always up for braving the elements if you are, and it can be especially fun with little kids. Give them a cute umbrella and some rubber boots and you can get some amazing photos. Although parents have to be prepared for them to get a bit wet and possibly dirty!

Payment

The session fee is due at the time of the session or prior to the session date. I accept cash, credit, paypal, cheque or email money transfer as payment. Please make cheques payable to Laura
